A gear lever bushing, also called a shifter bushing, is a small rubber or plastic component located within the gear shift lever assembly that connects the shifter to the transmission linkage, providing a smooth and precise gear shift by absorbing vibrations and minimizing play between the lever and the transmission mechanism; when worn out, it can lead to sloppy shifting and difficulty selecting gears. Key points about gear lever bushings: Function: They act as a shock absorber to dampen vibrations and ensure smooth gear changes. Location: They are usually found at the point where the gear lever connects to the transmission linkage. Wear and tear: Over time, due to constant use, the rubber material in the bushing can wear down, causing increased play in the shifter. Symptoms of a worn bushing: Difficulty shifting gears, sloppy feeling shifter, unusual noises during gear changes. Replacement: When a gear lever bushing is worn, it can be replaced with a new one to restore proper shifting feel.
