Create cleaner, straighter and more secure threaded connections with the TFF ThreadForge 6-Piece Brass Heat-Set Insert Tip Set . Designed for installing brass heat-set threaded inserts into plastic components, this set includes six tip sizes covering M2, M2.5, M3, M4, M5 and M6 inserts. The stepped tip profiles help support and align each insert as it is heated and pressed into a prepared hole. Unlike standard pointed soldering tips, the flat installation surfaces distribute heat more evenly across the threaded insert. This helps reduce tilting, uneven melting and accidental damage to the surrounding plastic. Suitable for makers, repair technicians, hobbyists and 3D-printing enthusiasts, the ThreadForge set offers a practical way to create strong, reusable metal threads in printed and moulded plastic parts. Key Features Complete 6-piece heat-set insert tip set Includes M2, M2.5, M3, M4, M5 and M6 sizes Designed for brass heat-set threaded inserts Precision-machined brass construction Efficient and even heat transfer Helps maintain straight insert alignment Reduces insert tilting during installation Helps prevent excessive melting around the hole Stepped profiles support controlled insertion Suitable for 3D-printed and moulded plastic parts Useful for repairs, prototyping and fabrication Compact size for convenient workshop storage Specifications Brand: TFF Product range: ThreadForge Product type: Heat-set insert soldering tips Quantity: 6 pieces Material: Brass Colour: Gold-tone Included sizes: M2, M2.5, M3, M4, M5 and M6 Approximate length per tip: 35.8 mm Approximate body diameter: 6.4 mm Primary application: Installing threaded heat-set inserts Installation tool: Compatible soldering iron Suitable workpieces: Thermoplastic and 3D-printed components Storage case: Not included Measurements are approximate and may vary slightly due to manufacturing tolerances. Included Tip Sizes 1 x M2 Heat-Set Insert Tip 1 x M2.5 Heat-Set Insert Tip 1 x M3 Heat-Set Insert Tip 1 x M4 Heat-Set Insert Tip 1 x M5 Heat-Set Insert Tip 1 x M6 Heat-Set Insert Tip The M2 to M6 markings refer to the compatible threaded insert sizes and not necessarily the soldering iron mounting thread. Compatibility Designed for compatible soldering irons and soldering stations that accept tips with the required mounting dimensions, including many 936-style soldering systems and similar models. Compatibility depends on: Soldering iron model Tip mounting system Heating element design Retaining collar or sleeve Tip body diameter Tip insertion depth Overall tip length Check the dimensions and mounting system of your soldering iron before purchasing. Do not force a tip into an incompatible soldering iron. Suitable Applications The ThreadForge tip set is suitable for: 3D-printed parts Electronics enclosures Plastic housings Robotics projects RC and drone components Workshop jigs Custom brackets Product prototypes Appliance repairs Automotive plastic components DIY fabrication Frequently assembled plastic parts Adding reusable metal threads to thermoplastics Suitable Plastic Materials The tips may be used with compatible heat-softening plastics such as: PLA ABS PETG Nylon Polycarbonate Other suitable thermoplastics The required installation temperature will vary depending on the plastic material, insert size, hole diameter and thickness of the surrounding component. How to Use Select the tip that matches the threaded insert size. Switch off and unplug the soldering iron before changing the tip. Install the selected ThreadForge tip onto a compatible soldering iron. Prepare a correctly sized hole in the plastic component. Position the threaded insert squarely over the prepared hole. Heat the soldering iron to an appropriate temperature for the plastic. Place the heat-set tip into or against the threaded insert. Keep the soldering iron as straight as possible. Apply light and steady downward pressure. Allow the heat to soften the surrounding plastic gradually. Press the insert until it reaches the required depth. Lift the soldering iron vertically away from the insert. Allow the plastic and insert to cool completely before installing a screw. Let the heat perform the installation. Excessive force may deform the plastic or push the insert out of alignment. Installation Tips Test the temperature on a spare plastic sample before working on the final component. Use the lowest effective temperature that allows smooth insertion. Match the prepared hole diameter to the threaded insert. Keep the soldering iron vertical to reduce insert tilt. Avoid installing inserts too close to thin walls or edges. Do not continue pressing once the correct depth has been reached. Hold the insert still while the surrounding plastic begins to cool. Allow the component to cool naturally before applying load. Use a heat-resistant alignment jig when consistent placement is required. Avoid reheating the same hole repeatedly, as this may weaken the plastic. Benefits of Heat-Set Inserts Heat-set threaded inserts can provide: Stronger reusable threads in plastic Improved resistance to repeated assembly Better screw retention than threads cut directly into plastic Cleaner and more professional-looking fastening points Increased durability for frequently opened components Easier replacement and servicing of assembled parts Performance depends on correct insert selection, hole preparation, installation temperature and component design. Safety Information Soldering irons and brass tips become extremely hot during use. Wear suitable eye protection and heat-resistant gloves. Work in a well-ventilated area. Avoid breathing fumes produced by heated plastic. Never touch the soldering iron tip while it is connected or cooling. Unplug the soldering iron before installing, removing or changing tips. Place the soldering iron in a stable heat-resistant stand when not in use. Keep flammable materials away from the work area. Do not apply excessive pressure during installation. Do not use bent, damaged or poorly fitting tips. Keep heated tools and components away from children and pets. Follow the soldering iron manufacturer's instructions and safety guidelines. Allow the tips to cool fully before cleaning or storage. Care and Maintenance Allow each tip to cool completely before handling. Wipe away light plastic residue with a soft cloth. Remove stubborn residue using a suitable non-abrasive cleaning method. Do not use steel wool, files or aggressive grinding tools. Avoid reshaping or modifying the stepped installation surfaces. Keep the tips clean and dry between uses. Store the tips separately to reduce scratching and deformation. Avoid exposure to corrosive chemicals. Inspect each tip before use for wear, bending or damage. Replace a tip if it no longer holds or aligns the insert correctly. Please Note The package contains six heat-set insert tips only. Soldering iron, threaded inserts, plastic parts and other demonstration items are not included. These tips are designed for installing heat-set inserts and are not standard soldering tips. Confirm soldering iron compatibility before purchasing. The correct installation temperature depends on the plastic and insert being used. Excessive heat may deform, discolour or damage the plastic component. Excessive pressure may cause insert misalignment or damage. The tips do not automatically control installation depth. Slight differences in colour, finish and dimensions may occur due to manufacturing tolerances.
